Books for Boys in Barbershops Kit

Encourage our Black youth to read while in barbershop with this set of books that look like them.

$165.00

Description

Our first barber (pictured above) to accept the “Books for Boys in Barbershops” is located in Huntsville, Alabama at the Oakwood University Church Family Life Center Barbershop.  (Note:  “Books for Girls in Beauty Shops” is now available – use Search tab to order.)

This is our latest literacy project – a collection of African-American books plus countertop display case and laminated poster to place in a barbershop to encourage our young Black males to read while waiting for a haircut.

This is a win-win opportunity to improve literacy in an environment of Black male affirmation.

  • The barber agrees to encourage young waiting customers to read instead of playing on cell phones and tablets.
  • Then while in the chair the barber agrees to ask questions to engage the young Black male in conversation about the book.

You, as the sponsor, pay for this literacy project. Thanks for your contribution. You can designate the book kit to ship to a barbershop of your choosing, or you can request Brown Sugar & Spice to locate a barbershop.

Our goal is to place these book kits all over America and to improve literacy for as many Black boys as possible!  – www.SaveOurBlackboys.net

Again thank you so much for supporting literacy for our young Black males.

“The more you read the more you know. The more you know the further you go!”
