Books for Girls in Beauty Shops

Spending time in the beauty shop is a great opportunity to read.

So, parents, community leaders – inspire girls to read with these positive stories about people who look like them.

Beauticians, please invite the girls to disconnect from their cell phones and tablets and to pick a book and read while they’re waiting to be serviced.  Then, you the beautician, please engage them in conversation about the book while they are sitting in your chair.  Encourage the next generation to read and learn more about African-Americans who triumphed.

This collection includes books about:

• Self-esteem:  loving your hair and body type
• STEM: a physician and an astronaut
• History:  Civil Rights
• Sports:  Simone Biles
• Contemporary Issues:  Bullying and Family

This set includes ten books and a display case.  You decide, if you’d like to find and place the set in a beauty shop of your choosing OR if you’d like us to find one for you.  Please state your preference (we pick or you pick)  in the ORDER NOTES.

If we find the beauty shop, then you will receive a picture of the set you donated to the shop and the name and location of the shop.
