THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE opened in September 2016 as the 19th museum of the Smithsonian Institution the largest museum complex and research organization in the world. Its mission is to provide for the collection study and establishment of programs and exhibitions relating to African American life art history and culture.
 This fully illustrated guide to the Smithsonian’s newest museum takes visitors on a journey through the richness and diversity of African American culture and the history of a people whose struggles  aspirations  and achievements have shaped the nation.
